At Yeading Junior we pride ourselves on being one school community with a vibrant mosaic of backgrounds and experiences. We bring everyone together and create ‘school spirit’ and a sense of belonging with our house system.

Every child is placed into a house as soon as they join our school and every staff member, with the exception of the Head and Deputy head, are in a house. In the first week of the school year, we have a House assembly for the new Year 3 cohort joining our school and announce their houses. Siblings are not necessarily placed in the same house.

    House points

       Resilience      Integrity       Teamwork     Curiosity      Reflection

House points are earned for modelling positive behaviour and our school virtues anywhere outside of the classroom. Staff lookout for children during break and lunch times who play cooperatively and model our virtues anywhere and at any time around the school as well as during PE sessions. House points are recorded on the house point tally chart. House Captains collect the house points earned from each

class at the end of the week from the tally charts and points are announced every fortnight in our Celebration assembly.

    House Captains

Children in Year 6 are able to apply to become a House Captain at the start of the academic year by writing a letter to the Head teacher about why they would like to be a House captain and what they would bring to the role. They then have an interview with the Head teacher and the final decisions are made alongside the Year 6 team. House Captains wear a House captain badge and represent their houses across the year in the inter house events that take place throughout the year as well as representing with their House Captain shirts at end of term House celebrations and of course Sports Day. They collect house points at the end of every week from each class and these are added to the totals carried over from week to week. House Captains also lead their houses in their house chants to celebrate.

    House competitions

Inter house competitions are held every half term. The House events calendar is planned out for the year and the children enjoy taking part in, as well as supporting the various competitions on offer.
