Pupil Leadership

Our pupil leadership opportunities enable our children to develop leadership and organisational skills which benefit them in later life. We have a mixture of elected and appointed roles. A sense of ownership, pride and self-esteem is fostered. Children learn what it means to be an active citizen and how to positively contribute to their school community.

Our pupil leadership opportunities are:  School Council, Eco-Council, Playground Leaders, Sports Leaders, House Captains, Bank Managers and Board of Directors, Librarians, Class monitors / helpers

School Council

Pupils are elected to represent the student body and make recommendations to school staff about issues that concern them. There is a minimum of x 3 meetings per term. With different pupils holding the post each term.

Eco-Council

Pupils are elected to discuss eco friendly and environmental issues within school and put into practice sustainable measures. This prepares children to live their future lives with consideration for global issues and to ensure our school is as environmentally kind as possible. There is a minimum of x 3 meetings per term. With different pupils holding the post each term.

Playground Leaders

Pupils who act as role models for their peers at lunchtime play and help to ensure that the school environment is inclusive and supportive.

Sports Leaders

Promote and support sports and physical education activities. Encourage participation, organise events, and lead activities for younger students or other peers, fostering a positive and active school environment.

House Captains

House Captains apply and are selected from Year 6 and set an example to younger children, to embody our character virtues and contribute to the wider school community. They help the younger children, both in the classroom and at playtimes. They make sure the House participates in all the events, competitions and other activities of the school and take a leading role in assemblies when required.

Bank Managers and Board of Directors

The board of directors are appointed to help run the Yeado’s shop throughout the year at our school. They are responsible for setting prices of items and for ensuring that sufficient stock is available for children to purchase. They also help to create a positive shopping experience for all of the hard-working children who come to spend their well-earned Yeado’s.

Librarians

Librarians are responsible for the day-to-day running of the school’s library or resource centre. They acquire, organise and maintain resources that support the learning needs of pupils and the needs of the wider school community. They promote a love of reading and are trusted to complete their role independently at lunchtimes.

Class monitors / helpers

This can include a range of tasks that pupils have within the learning environment. These responsibilities contribute to a positive and productive learning atmosphere and allow pupils to take on responsibility whilst practising their skills of organisation and problem solving.
